Evil Dead (1981) Review

So I finally watched this Cult Classic film, and I can see why it is a called that.  However, it is one of the worst movies I've ever seen.  The zombie/demons were so poorly done and I hated Bruce Campbell's character.  He heard on the recording that you have to dismember them to die, they made a little bit of a deal about it, like he was actually going to follow the directions.  But no, I think he only does it to two of them.

So they had a budget of $375,000 and I'm wondering what they used it on.  Obviously not on the demon make up.

It had a lot of potential, I liked the plot, it just didn't come together that well.

Is it scary?  Maybe to some.

Should you watch it if there is nothing else on?  Sure, give it a try.

  1. Wha...who...huh? How could you soil the good name of Bruce Campbell aka Ash by pointing out the horrible acting, crappy special effects (even back then they were crappy), or weak script?! lol. Yeah, by today's standards it's pretty shitty but you have to admit the pencil in the Achilles's heel was a pretty good scene. Plus it gave Sam Raimi (a fav director of mine) a start in his career. Honestly, I didn't care much for the remake...special effects were a hell of a lot better but just felt like I was watching the same movie. Evil Dead 2 is fun...better effects...and personally I thought Evil Dead 3 was a blast. Neither 2 and 3 are solely horror films as Raimi injects a lot of dark humor and at that time, really cool cinematography. Now I noticed you take movie review requests....if so, here's mine John Carpenter's "The Thing". Cheers and look forward to more of your movie reviews!

  2. I started watching the Evil Dead 2, it's like they did a redo. Its so similar but so different. I'm not that familiar with this series. I'd love to review "The Thing", so keep yours eyes open for it.
